Another economic center in China,
Guanghzou has a lot of culture and history to see. We well select 3 famous
attractions in Guangzhou.
Bright
Filial Piety Temple
With a history dating back more than 1700
years, Bright Filial Piety Temple is one of the grandest and most influential
temples in China.
There is a saying that 'The Bright Filial Piety Temple existed before the birth
of Guangzhou City'.
During Han dynasty, Bright Filial Piety
Temple was used as a lecture hall. Later this temple dedicated completely to
the function of a Zen Buddhist Temple during the Southern Song Dynasty.
The architecture of the temple and cultural
relics provide insight into the history of Chinese Buddhism, culture, and
architecture as well as the local history of Guangdong Province.
The many noted monks and sutra-translators who have resided there have
contributed greatly to the spread of Buddhist culture.
Shamian Island
Surrounded by water, Shamian Island
is an elliptic sandbar in the Liwan District of Guangzhou City. It just likes a
giant ship mooring alongside the wharf.
From the Song and the Qing Dynasty, Shamian Island
played an important role for foreign trade in Guangzhou. And it became a strategic
point for city defense during the second Opium Wars.
In addition, Shamian is an ideal place for
strolling along this 900m
long road. Walkers will not feel tired even after walking around the island
twice. There showcases a different atmosphere and pace of living, with no
traffic jams and exhaust gas pollution.
As one of the main cultural highlights of Guangzhou, Ancestral
Temple of Chen Family illustrates the Chinese traditional of successful family
members investing in a legacy to worship their ancestors.
Built with money from the wealthy Chen
family clan, this project was completed in 1874. The Chen's have been well
known in the region since the late Qing Dynasty when one of their members
achieved third place in the highest nationwide imperial examination and thus
received a high ranking position in the imperial court.
Designed in a traditional Chinese symmetrical
style, Temple
of the Chen Family is the perfect place for a little meditative reflection on
life and the universe. There is a particularly impressive variety of carvings
made from wood, lime, pottery and even brick, a perfect setting to appreciate
some exquisite examples of Chinese craftsmanship.
